The
"22nd Sing Tao Inter-School Debating Competition" Breaks
Record
The
Grand Final of the "22nd
Sing Tao Inter-School Debating Competition", jointly
organized by Sing Tao Daily, The Standard and the Education
and Manpower Bureau, was held on May 25 at the Queen
Elizabeth Stadium. An annual highlight of academic events,
this year's competition reached a record high of 230
competing teams and 5 months of debating sessions. At
the Grand Final, Carmel Pak U Secondary School and Diocesan
Girl's School came out as champions in the Chinese and
English section, respectively.
The guest of honours at the event was Mr. Raymond
Wong, Permanent Secretary for Education and Manpower;
Prof. Nyaw Mee-kau, Vice President of Lingnan University,
and Mr Anthony Kwok, Director of Centaline Training
Institute, presented the awards to the winning teams.
The panel of judges included Mr. Alan Leong, Legislative
Councillor; Mrs. Regina Ip Suk Yee, Chairperson of Board
of Governors, Savantas Policy Institute; Ms. Claudia
Mo, media freelancer; and Ms. Wong Fung Yee, Member of

of competitors, Metro Daily and AM730, which have readers
of 860,000 and 810,000 respectively. Furthermore, the
number of high quality readers commanded by Headline
Daily (family income over HKD 50,000 or are professionals,
executives or managers) is double those of its rivals.
The average circulation of Headline Daily has also reached
700,000 copies (audited by the Hong Kong Audit Bureau
of Circulation). Starting from June, its distribution
network has been extended to Macau on Thursday and Friday.

New Content
With
an average circulation of over 320,000 copies, as audited
by the Audit Bureau of Circulations, Express Post has
become the most widely circulated free weekend newspaper
in Hong Kong. Express Post is now distributed in the
morning and afternoon at MTR stations on Saturday. It
has also introduced a new 10-page section, "Q Walker",
featuring the hottest consumption guide including
shopping tips and promotion offers, to better serve
weekend readers' needs.

has been highly recognized by investors, and in May
the number of page views hit 3,000,000. Its popular

100 selected blog articles will be published by Sing
Tao Publishing as a book to be made available in the

Marketing Events on the Move
For
the second quarter of the year, The Standard stepped
up its marketing efforts. Several media sponsorships
and partnership deals were closed with different corporations
mainly in the business and financial sectors. These
include "Securing The Bank Conference" organized by
Financial Times; "China Civil Aviation Development Forum
2007" organized by C5 in Beijing; "The 2nd Annual Info-Security
and Storage Solution Forum Asia 2007" organized by Euro
Events Management Co. Ltd; and "16th AMCHAM Human Resources
Conference" organized by American Chambers of Commerce.
This is in line with The Standard's objective of reaching
a more niche market and increasing the hierarchy of
readership to C-suite level, top management and senior
executives.
On April 11 and 12, The Standard exclusively sponsored
the "HR Directors' Forum 2007" organized by Key Media
International. The event was well-attended by over 200
human resources executives. The Standard, Weekend Standard
and special featured magazines such as Macau Life and

Sing
Tao Publishing's New Book Autograph Party & Education
Seminar

Sing Tao Publishing has recently published "Stephy
& Alex Love Is Not All Around", a collection of
movie photo album and love story. The book was
well-received by young readers and a second print-run
was made soon after launch. On April 9, an autograph
party featuring Stephy Tang and Alex Fong was
held at JP@apm and attracted hundreds of fans.
Their manager Parco Wong also showed up in support
of the promotion.
Another new book "Learning With Celebrities On
Liberal Studies", featuring a number of scholars'
and social celebrities' interviews on their views
about Liberal Studies and reading experience,
received good comments from parents and educators.

Jointly organized by EDUplus.com.hk and School of Professional
Education and Executive Development (SPEED) of The Hong
Kong Polytechnic University, the award presentation
ceremony of "Associate
Degree and Higher Diploma Business Innovation Awards
2007" was held on April 27 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic
University and attracted over 100 attendants including
representatives of Education and Manpower Bureau, professional
organizations, business enterprises and competing participants.
The top-prize was won by "Intellects" of The Hong Kong
College of Technology; "SCS-HRM team" of School of Continuing
and Professional Studies, The Chinese University of
Hong Kong and "Paradise Workshop" of The Hong Kong College
of Technology collected the first runner-up and second
runner-up respectively. In addition, "Paradise Workshop"
also netted the CIM Marketing Award of The Chartered
Institute of Marketing (Hong Kong).
Competing participants were invited to submit business
proposals outlining suggestions on how to improve Whitehead
Club's market positioning and so to boost up the number
of visitors and revenue. Awardees were selected by the
panel of judges comprising representatives of The Chartered
Institute of Marketing (Hong Kong), Ocean Park, Whitehead
Club and Centaline.

The "Career
Prospects of Civil and Building Services Engineering
- Career Forum 2007", co-organized by Joint Engineering
Training and Education Fund and A-Performers.com, was
held on April 28. Industry leaders were invited to provide
relevant information and career advice. Over a hundred
fresh graduates and young engineers participated
in the forum.
Dr. John Luk, Former Chairman of Institution of Civil
Engineers, Hong Kong Association, shared his views about
the local, mainland China, Macau and overseas employment

Sing Tao News Corporation Limited announced its 2006
annual results on April 16 and reported profit attributable
to equity holders of HK$178.1 million. Excluding exceptional
and one-off items, the Group's profit for the Period
was HK$162.8 million, representing an increase of 477%
as compared with last year. The Group declared a final
dividend of HK2.5 cents per share for a full year dividend
of HK4.5 cents per share. The Group as a whole benefited
