The Standard Goes Free

The Standard held a press conference on September 3 at which Mr. Charles Ho, Chairman of Sing Tao News Corporation Ltd., Mr. Lo Wing Hung, CEO of Sing Tao News Corporation Ltd., Mr. Siu Sai Wo, CEO of Sing Tao Daily and Headline Daily and Mr. Ivan Tong, Editor-in-Chief of The Standard announced that the newspaper would switch to free circulation starting from September 10. The nascent move has made history in English-language newspaper publishing in Hong Kong. With an initial daily circulation of 120,000 copies from Monday to Saturday, The Standard becomes Hong Kong's largest circulating English-language daily newspaper in Hong Kong. Circulation will be fully audited, guaranteeing advertisers the widest English newspaper audience. The new business model has received generally positive response in the media market.

"The International Kite Festival 2007" organized by Sing Tao Daily's New York Office was held on June 30. Sing Tao News Corporation Limited announced its interim results on September 5. The Group's revenue grew by 13.7% to HK$1,065.6 million as compared with the Previous Period. Gross profit improved by 36.7% while net profit manifested a growth of 44.4%.
