Sing Tao News Corporation Raises
Funds for Quake Victims
Sing Tao News Corporation took immediate action to help in the relief of the Sichuan
earthquake. Its publications Sing Tao Daily, Headline Daily and East Week joined forces
to commission a memorial publication to raise funds for children who suffer from the
disaster. Apart from embracing Andy Lau's script and Stephen Chow's eulogy in the
publication, limited copies with the celebrities' autographs were made available on
headline.com for charity auction. All proceeds went to the United Nations Children's
Fund, World Vision and "Artistes 512 Fund Raising Campaign" to help rebuild children's
lives in the quake-stricken regions, as well as providing them with educational and
psychological support.
Meanwhile, the widely-acclaimed finance columnist of Headline Daily Dr. Luk Yun-Yan
donated one of his best-selling works "Dr Luk Finance Booklet Part II" for charity sale.
The books which were autographed and graced with Dr. Luk's investing aphorism were put up
for charity auction on headline.com. Responses were overwhelming with the auction fetching
over HK$170,000 and all the money raised was donated to The Hong Kong Red Cross for relief
operations.
Sing Tao Daily's overseas offices also swung into action to collect donations to help
with the reconstruction work at the devastated areas by setting up "Sing Tao Sichuan Earthquake
Relief Fund". It is committed to coordinating the efforts of the Chinese community worldwide to
aid the casualties. The fundraising campaign called forth prompt and enormous support from a vast
number of altruistic readers overseas expressing deep concern over their own country
and compatriots.
