"Smart Parents" Tops Circulation among Parenting Publications

On March 18, Sing Tao Daily inaugurated Hong Kong's first free parenting weekly "Smart Parents". This publication aims to help parents bring up their kids in a "smart" way, and targets middle-class parents with children aged between 2 and 12. Published every Thursday, it covers a wide range of parenting topics and offers experts' tips on parent-children relationship, healthcare, education and extracurricular activities. Since its launch, "Smart Parents" has emerged as the parenting weekly with the largest circulation in Hong Kong, and has garnered as its readers a group of middle to upper class young families with strong purchasing power. Among its readers, 60% are parents aged between 30 and 39, 75% are working parents of whom 45% are professionals or in mid-to-top management; and 55% have monthly household income of over $30,000 and monthly spending of $8,950 relating to their children. While acting as a valuable guide for parents, "Smart Parents" also serves as a highly effective promotion platform for childcare products and services, and is popular among both readers and advertisers.

Sing Tao Inter-School Competition Sparks Fervent Debate

Co-hosted by Sing Tao Daily, The Standard and the Education Bureau and sponsored by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research and Centaline Property Limited, the grand final and award ceremony of "The 25th Sing Tao Inter-School Debating Competition" was held on May 4 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium and drew an audience of around 2,000. Wa Ying College and South Island School were the Champion in the Chinese and English section, respectively. The newly introduced "Most Improved School Award" and "Best Motion Award" were also presented at the ceremony. For details, please visit: www.singtao.com/debate.

Officiated by Mr. Wong Yan Lung, SC, Secretary for Justice, the awards were presented by Ms. Wong Fung Yee, Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (also one of the judges) and Mr. Addy Wong, Chief Executive Officer (Hong Kong & Macau), Centaline Property Agency Limited. Alan Leong, SC; Mr. Siu Sai Wo, Chief Editor, Sing Tao Daily; Mr. Cheng Huan, Senior Counsel; Ms. Claudia Mo, Media Freelancer; and Mr. Steve Shellum, Executive Editor, The Standard. This star-studded event was clearly well-recognized in the community.

To allow more students to view the competition, the organizer has again produced a DVD "Debate and Liberal Studies 2010" featuring the grand final competition and speeches by the guests and judges, offering tips on debating skills and techniques for learning liberal studies. Highlights from the "Education Seminar" and "Debate Workshop" are also included.
