Smart Parents Holds "HK Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools & Primary Schools Admission Expo"
The "1st HK Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools & Primary Schools Admission Expo", jointly held by Smart Parents, Sing Tao Daily and EDUplus.com.hk last year, was a success and attracted more than 20,000 visitors. This year, the Expo will take place on June 23 - 24 at Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Centre Star Hall. The exhibition will be enhanced to accommodate more than 80 participating units and will invite experienced individuals from the education sector to be the honorary guest speakers. The "Sing Tao Inter-School Debating Competition" Drew to a Close
Co-organised by Sing Tao Daily, The Standard and the Education Bureau and sponsored by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research as well as Centaline Property Agency Limited, the grand final of the "27th Sing Tao Inter-School Debating Competition" was successfully held on May 11 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Over 2,000 students, parents and the public attended the event. After sessions of vigorous debates, Pope Paul VI College and La Salle College won the championships of the Chinese Section and the English Section respectively.
The grand final was officiated by Mrs. Cherry Tse Ling Kit-ching (Permanent Secretary for Education). Dr. Poon Po Chiu (member of Standing Committee on Language Education and Research) and Ms. Sandia Lau (Director of Centaline Property Agency Limited) were guests of honours to present the awards. Other leading figures and elites from the society were also present to show support for the event. Prof. Ma Ngok (Associate Professor of the Department of Government & Public Administration at the Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Mr. Gilbert Mo Sik-keung (Deputy Law Draftsman, Bilingual Drafting & Administration of the Department of Justice) acted as commentators for the Chinese and English Sections respectively. Mr. Peter Broe (Project Officer of Secondary Native-Speaking English Teacher Section of the Education Bureau), Hon. Alan Leong (SC and Legislative Councilor), Ms. Ella Leung (Senior Instructor of the English Language Teaching Unit of the Chinese University of Hong Kong), Ms. Claudia Mo (Media Freelancer) and Dr. Poon Po Chiu were adjudicators in the grand final. To encourage students and the public to actively participate in this liberal studies learning event, the "Most Improved School Award" and "Best Motion Award" were offered again this year and presented during the grand final. To help students with effective learning of liberal studies and prepare for the 334 academic structure, the "Debate and Liberal Studies 2012" DVD set has been made available, featuring the grand final of the Chinese and English Sections, commentaries from the guests of honours and adjudicators and highlights of the semi-finals. The DVD set and "11/12 Liberal Studies Teaching Kit" are offered for redemption to make the learning of debate, liberal studies and English more comprehensive.

Sing Tao Daily Brings More Privileges to Readers
Bundled with Sing Tao Daily, "Smart Guide" is given out for free every Friday. "Joyrides Summer Series" issued earlier provided readers with the latest food and dining information of different driving routes from north to south, east to west. A special game was also held, with a $160,000 Mazda2 car to be won.

Sing Tao Overseas At a Glance
Sing Tao Daily's New York office won second place awards for "Best investigative/in-depth story" and "Best photo essay or online slideshow" at the annual journalism event "Ippies Journalism Awards 2012". As the Chinese-language media receiving the most awards, the professionalism of Sing Tao overseas is further recognized. In addition, the highest rated Taiwanese singing contest, "One Million Star Competition", held its preliminary contest in San Francisco. As the local leading Chinese media, Sing Tao Daily and Sing Tao Chinese Radio Station will collaborate to co-organize the event.

Updates on The Standard
In this second quarter, The Standard continues to take part in a variety of partnership and sponsorship programs with different organizations with an objective of increasing its reach in different sectors. These include the "AmCham China Conference 2012" organized by the American Chambers of Commerce in Hong Kong and the "Inter-School Scrabble Championship 2012" organized by Mattel and BroadLearning. PC Market Hosts the "2nd Technology Forum"
The "PC Market Technology Forum 2012" was held on April 21 at Cyberport. The Forum comprised four main themes, including "Interaction of Smart TV" that demonstrated a range of brand-new motion-detecting interactive Smart TV applications and "Connecting the World with Wi-Fi DC" which provided trial experience of wireless DCs in novel and fun ways.
