Tao Daily Wins Eight Media Awards Granted by the NSHK
the Hong Kong News Awards 2003 organized by the Newspaper
Society of Hong Kong ('NSHK'), Sing Tao Daily won eight media
awards, more than any other participants, at the award presentation
ceremony held on May 4, 2004.
Elected by a panel
of judges consisting of 38 media veterans, Sing Tao Daily
won the award for Best News Reporting and snapped a total
of four 2nd Runner Up awards under the categories of Best
Business News, Best Layout Design, Best Headline and Best
Photography.The daily was also given an Honorable Mention
in the Best Business News Reporting, Best Photography and
the Best News Feature categories.
Mr. Lee Cho Jat,
Chairman of the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong, said that
the honor was a testimony of the awardees' hard work over
the past year. He was pleased to witness the full support
of the general public towards Hong Kong journalists who have
always regarded objectivity, fairness, accuracy and timely
delivery as the core of high standard journalism. Furthermore,
Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Mr. Tung Chee Hwa, Guest of
Honor of the event, also extended his congratulation to the
award-winning Sing Tao Daily for its excellence in journalism.

Sing Tao Investment Weekly & Entertainment x Features Summer Edition
Sing Tao Investment Weekly, a newly launched supplement bundled
with the Sing Tao Daily on Mondays has caught great market
attention since its debut on April 19, 2004. The supplement
focuses on the provision of business and property information,
with the aim of offering exclusive industry news and in-depth
analysis catering to the information needs of the investment
market. Responses to the new product from its massive readership
and its advertisers have been overwhelming.
Sing Tao Daily has also joined hands with the Credit Suisse
Privilege to organize an investment seminar on June 12th,
2004 with Mr. Chan Wing Luk, the renowned investment advisor,
as the event moderator. Forum speakers included Mr. Justin

Standard Partners with Business Week
to Host the 13th Asia Leadership Forum
Standard, the Group's English business newspaper, partnered
with Business Week on April 26-27, 2004 to host the 13th Asia
Leadership Forum ('ALF') as part of its series of brand building
exercises. The two-day event, which had former Prime Minister
of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Mr. John Major C.H.
as the forum's keynote speaker, attracted hundreds of senior
executives from sizeable corporations.
The theme of this year's forum "Beyond the Hype: Sustaining
Growth and Creating Corporate Competitiveness", provided decision-makers
a backdrop for discussions on geopolitical and global economic
issues that could possibly affect business growth.
The forum was further
highlighted by the closing speech of Mr. John Major, and a
round up session moderated by Mr. Mark L. Clifford, Publisher
and Editor-in-chief of The Standard, together with Mr. Fidel
Ramos, former President of the Philippines.

China Reports Attributable Profit of HK$12.37 million for
The respectable growth by its core
media business enabled Global China Group (the 'Group') to
continue to achieve satisfactory results during the year 2003
when operating environment remained in a doldrums.
In its annual results
announced on April 20, 2004, the Group reported an attributable
profit of HK$12.37 million for the 12 months ending December
31, 2003 ('Year'). The consolidated turnover on continuing
operations registered a significant growth of 19% to HK$1,181.56
million as compared with HK$993 million over the corresponding
year. Basic earnings per share were HK0.68 cents.
Turnover of the media business witnessed a 15% increase to
HK$993.3 million during the Year. Despite having to weather
the adverse impact brought on by the SARS viral outbreak,
operating profit of this business unit actually grew by 112%
to HK$13.4 million.
The Group's media operations, in particular the Newspaper
Unit comprising the Sing Tao Daily and The Standard, achieved
satisfactory results. Successful content enhancement programs
and vigorous marketing campaigns boosted circulation and advertising
revenue, both of which witnessed a growth of 27.3% and 11.8%
respectively. The Group also invested additional resources
in its English business newspaper,The Standard, of which a
new management team was installed in 2004 to further develop
its business and financial news coverage.

Week, the flagship magazine of China Touch, was re-launched
on May 26, 2004 with a brand new logo and image. Having positioned
itself as an infotainment title providing accurate, in-depth
information, East Week now carries a clearer message - 'Broaden
your vision, think positive' and has dedicated itself to providing
high quality contents to readers at all levels.
been expanded to include both macro and micro perspectives,

Touch Strengthens Trend News to Tap Modern Youngsters
East Touch, since its April revamp this year, has been vigorously
keeping itself as the front-runner in trends by garnering
entertainment news and information of the latest chic products
from around the world. The magazine allows its readers to
peer into the world of fashion, music, films and cosmopolitan
news, and has invited columnists such as Lin Xi, Chet Lam,
Winifred Lai, Siu Hak and Jan Lam to further enrich its contents.
A new 'Mov.Free Club' has been formed to strengthen customer
loyalty and brand awareness. Circulation of East Touch increased
significantly as a result of the successful makeover.
Tao Publishing - Sole Distributor of Walt Disney's Chinese
Tao Publishing Limited ("STP"), the Group's book publication
arm, successfully obtained the sole distribution rights for
Walt Disney Company's chinese children storybooks in April
this year. These Disney titles will be published and distributed
in Hong Kong and Macau, and plans are underway to launch more
than 50 books of this kind by the end of the year.
In addition, STP also purchased the copyrights for several
best-selling titles from overseas and the PRC, notably the
"Quelle Histoire" from the French publisher Casterman's children
series; "Food vs. Medicine, the Do's and Don'ts" - one of
the top-ranking health reference books in the PRC; and "The
Road to a Healthy Life" series, the content of which is based
on CCTV's health documentary series. Dedicated to introducing
good books from overseas and the PRC to readers worldwide,
STP will continue to further develop its copyright trading
business with a special focus on the publication of traditional

Job Market Career and Education Expo held at Diamond Hill
Plaza Hollywood on June 12-13, 2004 offered more than 1,000
job openings this year. The two-day event attracted approximately
5,000 visitors who wished to explore new career opportunities
and to obtain latest information on further education. More
than 60 exhibitors from different sectors were there to provide
one-stop-shop consultation services as well as to conduct
on-site interviews for job seekers.

The 19th Sing Tao Inter-School
Debating Competition, jointly organized by the Sing Tao
Daily, The Standard and the Education and Manpower Bureau
was successfully held on May 1, 2004 at the Queen Elizabeth
Stadium. The debate for this year exceeded a record-breaking
160 enrollments, and attracted an audience of over 2,000
including teachers, students and parents to attend its grand
final. St Joseph College was judged champion in both the
English and Chinese sections after a fierce five-month long

judges included Mr. Ngok Ma, Assistant Professor of the
Division of Social Science, HKUST and media veteran Ms.
